If your idea of a perfect travel day involves being pinned to a seat at ridiculous speed, Abu Dhabi delivers. The emirate has quietly become the UAE’s theme-park capital, and its record-breaking coasters are the main event. Here’s how to plan a day of adrenaline without the rookie mistakes.
Getting there
The big parks sit together on Yas Island, an easy drive or bus ride from both Abu Dhabi city and Dubai. If you’re day-tripping from Dubai, leave early — the journey is about ninety minutes and you’ll want the full day.
Which ticket to buy
Single-park tickets are fine for a focused visit, but if you’re travelling as a group or staying overnight, a multi-park pass usually works out cheaper per ride. Check whether your hotel bundles tickets before booking separately.
Beat the queues
Head straight for the headline coaster first thing, before the crowds build. Save the indoor attractions for the hottest part of the afternoon.
Lockers are worth every dirham — loose items and high-speed rides do not mix.
What to pack
- Sunscreen and a hat for the outdoor queues.
- A light layer for heavily air-conditioned indoor zones.
- A refillable water bottle to stay ahead of the heat.
Is it worth it?
For thrill-seekers, absolutely. Even if coasters aren’t your thing, the engineering on display is a spectacle in itself — and there’s enough variety that nobody in the group leaves bored.
